THE HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS IN E³UDRES²
Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences is based in Finland. Focussing on new learning approaches, innovation and entrepreneurship, Jyväskylä UAS is getting its students ready for the future. The university is also very active in the field of research, and involved in the development of the region it is located in.

What is the European University Initiative ?
The higher education institutions working together in E³UDRES² intend to co-create outstanding ideas and concepts for future universities, integrate challenge-based education, mission-oriented research, human-centered innovation, as well as open and committed knowledge exchange with interrelated core areas, and establish an exemplary multi-university campus across Europe.
What are the research areas of EUDRES ?
01. Circular Economy
02. Human Contribution to Artificial Intelligence
03. Well-being and Active Ageing
E³UDRES² has established three research topics, each specializing in a different topic. These research topics are based on cross-disciplinary and cross-sectoral collaboration towards relevant challenges, such as well-being and active ageing, circular economy, and human contribution to Artificial Intelligence (AI). These research subject matters connect experience in diverse scientific core disciplines, which are already well-established on several member-campuses with recognized scientific staff. The research topics include not only researchers, but learners, innovators, entrepreneurs and other stakeholders and (regional) communities that interact with the international scientific communities and innovation ecosystems and provide widely acknowledged scientific results.
1
Circular Economy
The goal of this research topic is to contribute to a transformation of our currently linear (take-make-consume-throw away) economy into a circular one (take-make-consume-remake). The Circular Economy Network has established a number of fields of common interest, which all intend to contribute create circular economic processes to reduce waste to a minimum, save raw materials, and reduce the pressure on the environment:
-
Water reuse
-
Material recovery
-
Waste Management
-
Energy reduction
-
Food supply
The Circular Economy research network in E³UDRES² has established the Change cornEr - a co-creation "space" aiming to raise awareness for the topic of Circular Economy in the E³UDRES² regions.
2
Human Contribution to Artificial Intelligence
This network aims at decreasing the barriers of using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies in various areas of our life by increasing the interaction between humans and the AI. This involves aspects of explainability and trustworthiness, as well as technical barriers like data availability and quality. The Human Contribution to AI Network has identified the following common areas of interest:
-
Virtual Reality (VR) and AI in active living and active aging
-
Challenges in agriculture, with a focus on viticulture
-
Trustworthy data sharing among companies
-
Utility, waste, and related challenges in smart cities
-
Prediction of “moral behaviour”, e.g. in law enforcement

The Human Contribution to AI research network in E³UDRES² has established MULTISENS²E - a Multi-Sensor Farm Monitoring ecosystem able to predict plant diseases.
3
Well-being and Active Ageing
The ultimate goal of this research topic is to close the gap between life expectancy and years lived with disability. The Well-being and Ageing Network has established 4 main lines of common interest. Combined they intend to contribute with innovative solutions to the prevention of functional decline (while promoting functional ability) of the individuals to be as able-bodied as possible throughout their lifespan. These lines are:
-
Functional longevity
-
Proactive health and well-being management
-
Productive and positive Ageing
-
Ageing in place

The Wellbeing & Active Ageing research network in E³UDRES² has established VirtualGym - a VR platform aiming to increase physical activity levels.
